Concept Preliminary Task 1

Concept Title: Smile (an action thriller about a serial killer) The title of our film is 'smile' due to not only the literal use of this word in the dialogue of the scene but the irony that comes along with it. The title also directly links to the serial killer as his calling card ( i n   criminology, a calling card is a particular object sometimes left behind by a criminal at a scene of a crime, often as a way of taunting police or claiming responsibility) is that of a smiley-face balloon. You will find the irony in the way 'smile' has connotations of happiness and joy yet we are using it in a completely contrasting way. Target Audience: 16 years and older as the content may be too mature and scary for a younger audience (serial killer, the twist of turning something childish into something sinister). Institutional/genre conventions to be included: symbolism/iconography: The yellow balloon is being used in a contrasting, ironic way to what it would usually be used in...

Treatment Preliminary Task 1

A TREATMENT FOR "SMILE" Prepared by Samuel It is proposed that the film will be of 1 to 1.5 minutes duration and will be  filmed at school because it is easily accessible by all cast and crew. It also provides the wide open space of the carpark to film our chase. Conventions we will use: Iconography: The murder weapon that will be used is a kitchen knife which shows the more sadistic and unhinged side of the character of the Killer. Blood will be used on the body of the Victim at the end to show what the Killer is leaving behind and to also highlight the cruelty of the Killer's character. The chase scene is a nod to the iconography of typical action thriller films. Sound: The diegetic sound we will use in our film will be the notification sound of the text arriving to the Victim's phone which will increase tension once he reads it. The music that will be used will be low and unsettling to begin with but will increase in tension as the film escalates. Especially at th...

Props and Costumes (preliminary task 1)

Image
Props and Costumes: Props: For props we have gone with a knife as the main murder weapon. The knife will be used by the serial killer when they murder the victim. The serial killer will be seen giving the knife a grand reveal towards the end of the film as they will dramatically pull it out of their pocket. Blood will then be used after this to show the impactful affects of the knife. Blood will be used to not only symbolise death of the victim but the utterly gruesome way in which it occurred. The blood will be seen pouring out of the victim and creating a pool of blood. It will be very clearly evident as the victim will be wearing white. The ingredients and recipe for the blood are: teaspoon of flour half a teaspoon of red food colouring tablespoon of corn syrup one drop of blue food colouring A mobile phone will be used by the victim in the beginning to represent and imply danger. The victim will receive  a text message from an anonymous person (killer). The message will ...
