Foundation Portfolio rough edit SAMUEL

  This is my rough edit

shot practise Foundation Portfolio

We tried practicing a one whole shot that is inspired by 1917. We realised through this that timing is going to be really important but also holding the camera very steady so that we get nice smooth shots; especially when moving angles. During these shots I was talking Samuel through what those different angles would be and the timing at which he would move. These are the shots we got on film night. We did a few practice shots at our initial location but turned out super grainy due to low lighting. We played around with the camera for a bit but there was still too much grain. It was useful though as practice runs to get Samuel used to the camera movements and the actors used to their roles and what they would be doing. We then went to our second location which had much greater lighting and left us with much clearer and greater quality. This is a practice shot we got before we did any real shots. Once again we were walking through to make sure everyone was on the same page.

Treatment Foundation Portfolio

Image
A Treatment for “We’ll Meet Again” Prepared by Samuel It is proposed that the film will be of 2 to 2.5 minutes in duration. It will be filmed in the area near my house because of the quiet and well-lit streets. This will be good for the car stalking Harry. Conventions: Iconography:  The prevalent shadows in the environment will be our main source of iconography for our opening. Also the use of a car as a getaway vehicle after the kidnapping is a convention of thrillers. Harry's casual clothing will be a part of iconography as well. Sound:  Diegetic sound will be prevalent in this film; Harry walking through the quiet street, the car stalking him, and the song playing from the car as it gets closer, Harry’s dialogue, “Nope, not today”, and the sounds of the struggle at the end. Non-diegetic sound will almost be non-existent with the music becoming non-diegetic at the end. Lighting:  We will be using street lamps as our main light source as well as the headlights of the car...

shot list Foundation Portfolio

Image
Shot list   (We will be attempting to film most of our film in one whole shot like the film 1917. Keep this in mind when going through the shot list as the camera will still be rolling through the different shots and angles. However, to be pre-cautious we will still be getting extra shots so that we have a lot of variety to play with in post-production.)     Wide shot as Harry walks into the shot front on. The camera is steady and hand held.   As Harry walks closer to the camera the shot becomes a wide shot. The camera still and steady; no t moving.   The camera starts panning and moving with Harry at that same medium shot as he continues to move forward.   The camera stops as Harry stops and moves angles as Harry moves his head.   Harry continues walking; the camera moves back to its original angle and follows Harry once again as he walks forward.   The camera (still at that medium shot) moves its angle slightly off center to reveal the car...

concept Foundation Portfolio

concept title We'll meet again (an abduction thriller) Our film is titled "we'll meet again" because of the song with the same title by Vera Lynn. It's a hopeful, optimistic song that will be playing at the end of the film when our main character is getting abducted. This not only challenges the normal convention of a thriller to have an intense or suspenseful score but also contrasts the events that will be occurring during the duration of the song. There is nothing hopeful or optimistic about the situation. It also implements the idea that we may be seeing these characters again throughout the film which gives that slight bit of hope to the audience that there may be survival for the main character. However, like the lyrics go on to say "don't know where, don't know when" there is still a slight feeling of uncertainty which allows the film to still hold onto that sense of mystery. target audience 16 years old and over as the themes of the mo...

lighting Foundation Portfolio

Image
Our last preliminary task resulted in a very grainy film due to our very low lighting and harsh exposure. This time I have done some research as to why this may have been and how to avoid this problem in our foundation portfolio as we will once again be filming at night and may be limited with lighting as we are only filming outside. A few basic tips: you need a lot of light to get good footage use a street lamp as the practical light --> make sure that the light hits the actors the actors should face the light the villains can face away from light to give a more mysterious look you could use puddles as cool reflections of light you can use a reflector to reflect light shoot at 24fps (frames per second) exposure triangle the 3 main topics when it comes to exposure: iso shutter speed aperture iso  -->  ISO is  your camera's sensitivity to light as it pertains to either film or a digital sensor . A lower ISO value means less sensitivity to light, while a higher ISO me...

props and costumes Foundation Portfolio

Image
props and costumes (FP) by Niav Rice What are props and costumes used for? set the time and place for example in Bridgerton their use of guns and teacups indicate the time period. the elegant costumes are also a huge indicator as to what time period the audience are watching we will be using that of the car to symbolise the time but also the costumes as our film is filmed during the modern time. by using props you can inform the audience of the time and place instead of using long dialogue to explain. determine the genre blood is a vey obvious way to show the audience the film is probably that of a horror or thriller we will be using the dark setting and weird masks worn by the abductor to show the audience the genre of a thriller further the plot a great example is the matrix as Neo is placed with the decision of two different coloured pills and whether or not he wants to continue his journey in the matrix or live in truth as we are only producing an opening to a film t...

Location Recce Foundation Portfolio

We have a few locations in mind, all in the area of my house.  This is a side road in Silverdale village that has                                                                                          a bit more of a creepy feel about it.  An example of what the car in the background                                                                                           would be like.  This my street which is a main road but is                         ...
